FUNCTIONS AT Griffin
The Griffin is a magnificent traditional pub in the heart of Leeds city centre. The pub is an exceptional Victorian building with a lively modern spirit and perfectly encapsulates the intriguing blend of past and present which makes Leeds itself so fascinating.
The Griffin sits next to Leeds Station and was originally built in 1872 as a railway hotel. A prominent local landmark and celebrated city centre hotel for generations, our pub is also woven into the history of Leeds in some unexpected ways: in 1904, The Griffin was the venue for a pivotal meeting which led to the formation of Leeds City FC. The renowned club is now Leeds United and has changed significantly over the years, but our pub remains a perfect location for important events and inspired decision making.
The Griffin is beautifully restored and the inside is filled with remarkable period detail. The Griffin’s atmosphere is fresh and contemporary with live music, carefully arranged big screen TVs, live sport and a fine selection of real ales, adding even greater appeal to our historic warmth and charm.
Our unusual function room is designed to reflect The Griffin’s past as an outstanding Victorian railway hotel. Named the Tunnel Room, it’s an intriguing space with 19th century tiles and framed vintage transport art. The walls are lined with comfortable benches and intimately-sized tables, to echo the style and comfort of a traditional station waiting room. A unique venue for private parties, receptions and celebrations, the Tunnel Room is spacious enough for up to 80 guests and can be completely closed off from our usual bar area, if required.
