The Rose & Crown is a welcoming, traditional pub in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon. One of the most famous towns in England, Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The celebrated English playwright was born on Henley Street in 1564, but at the height of his career he owned a house on Chapel Lane, running directly parallel to Sheep Street. It’s the spot on which our pub stands today.

The Rose & Crown’s building is characteristically Tudor and echo's Sheep Street’s beautifully-preserved architectural heritage. Sheep Street is filled with historic buildings, museums and elegant, specialist shops. It’s also a direct route to the River Avon, where views over the water on a summer afternoon pleasantly balance busy Stratford-upon-Avon’s crowds.

Even today, our pub respects the best qualities of a fine 16th century inn. Cosy fires perfect for the winter, comfortable seating and a welcoming atmosphere. TV screens are thoughtfully arranged for guests to enjoy all the big sporting action. The pub also offers private nooks for quiet conversation and relaxation. In the summer months, our pretty beer garden is a tranquil respite from the bustle of Sheep Street and a perfect place to enjoy a drink with friends on a warm evening.

The Rose & Crown function room is a delightful setting for family celebrations, pre-theatre drinks, tour group lunches and private events. Sitting away from the main pub, it’s an inviting space which can be arranged for formal dinners of up to 150 guests, while working equally well for smaller, informal occasions.

Our pretty covered terrace is an ideal choice for events in warmer months, even when the weather is typically British. For larger outdoor events, The Rose & Crown beer garden can be booked in its entirety and is charming by day or night.
