FUNCTIONS AT Royal Oak
This Grade II-listed pub in the residential suburb of New Malden has been around since the late 1880s where it started life as a hotel-cum-pub. High ceilings with original features, including stained-glass windows, wood panelling and two functioning fireplaces gives this pub its character. A horseshoe-shaped bar, quiet nooks and comfy seating make it an enviable setting for a pint. On sunny days, the pub’s large, enclosed beer garden is perfect.
The vast majority of visitors to the Royal Oak turn up to enjoy a drink and a chat with friends. Three large TV screens downstairs occasionally show sport so guests can cheer on their favourite team. During weekdays at lunch, the pub is the filled with locals and office workers enjoying a spot of relaxing. Come evening, the commuter brigade often stop off here for a quick post-work pint after piling off the train from central London. .
New Malden is a thriving suburb, home to a sizeable Korean population, whose arrival can be traced back to a time when the South Korean embassy was located here. The UK headquarters for Korean electronics giant, Samsung, was also located here up until 2005. New Malden’s high street is dotted with Korean restaurants, grocery stores and shops, which inject some multicultural flavour to this suburb.
The pub’s upstairs function room holds up to 100 people seated and up to 150 standing. Known as the Luke Pullen suite, it is cut off from the main ground floor pub, acessible via a beautiful timber staircase. The room has eye-catching features with its curved ceiling, light-yielding bay window and circular porthole-style windows. A side room leading off to the right of the function room has its own private bar and makes a good spot to set out a buffet table for catered functions.
The space is suitable to cater for a number of events. A big projector screen can be used for business presentations or to show live sporting actions. Table service can be arranged to ensure that you don't have any unnecessary interuptions. A dancefloor and PA system are perfect for weddings, birthdays and anniversary parties for people to throw some shapes, and catering can also be arranged. Should you want to put your own stamp on your event, you can even decorate the room to your own specification. We also have a fantastic kitchen should you require catering for the event.
