FUNCTIONS AT Hare & Hounds
It may be the only pub in the picturesque village of Holcombe Brook, but that isn’t the only reason the Hare & Hounds is so popular. This characterful pub has stood on the site for at least a century maybe more, it is not just of historical significance but is also renowned for its excellent range of real ales. Though the line-up of available ales changes regularly, the locally brewed and eminently slurpable Bank Top Flat Cap is usually available.
The pub has an open-plan interior anchored by an island bar, and despite a refurbishment the Hare & Hounds still gives off a charming traditional vibe. Like all good village pubs, it attracts a truly diverse crowd, with real ale-loving locals rubbing shoulders with cyclists, birdwatchers and families enjoying days out in the surrounding countryside. With a number of large TV screens showing big sporting events as well as a pool table and dartboard, the Hare & Hounds is a great location for sports fans. In summer, the pub’s beer garden facilitates outdoor dining, while in winter, two real fires blaze, bringing warmth and an air of cosiness.
The Hare & Hounds’ function space, known as the Barn, is sectioned off from the main pub area by a set of sliding doors through which guests can access the main bar and toilets. Capable of holding up to 30 people seated and 40 standing, the room is perfect for meetings and special events, as well as for family occasions and birthday parties. Guests can even hook up their own music to the sound system, creating a tailored playlist especially for their event.
The Hare & Hounds regularly hosts beer and cider festivals that attract thirsty guests far and wide, who come to sample the array of cask ales and craft ciders on offer. Though situated right in the heart of the peaceful, picture-perfect country village of Holcombe Brook, the pub is just a short distance from the M66 and just over 30 minutes from Manchester by car. Ramsbottom and Bury, just a 5-minute and 10-minute drive away respectively, are even closer. After enjoying a hearty meal at the Hare & Hounds, you may want to work some it off with a walk. In which case, ask the pub’s staff to point you in the direction of hiking paths leading to nearby Holcombe Tower and Redisher Woods.
