About Red Lion

We have an upstairs dining area also available to hire for private parties. The Red Lion (or Red Lyon) is one of the most popular pub names, with over 600 examples throughout the country. The early use of the pubs names was due to John of Gaunt, who was often regarded as the most powerful man in the country for much of the 14th Century. The badge he bore was a red lion. The district was previously known as Moorfields, and features in Samuel Pepys famous diary written at the end of the 17th Century. Broadgate circle has become a popular filming location being used in ‘Mission: Impossible’ ‘Run Fatboy Run’ and in adverts for Converse and BBC Radio 2.
