FUNCTIONS AT Prospect of Whitby
The Prospect of Whitby is London’s oldest riverside pub, and one of its finest. The pub dates back to 1520, the pub gained notoriety as a hangout for sailors, smugglers and local criminals.
The pub was originally called The Pelican prior to changing its name to The Prospect of Whitby in the early 18th century after the original tavern was destroyed in a fire. Over the years the pub has welcomed some of London’s most celebrated artists, writers and philosophers through our doors, including Charles Dickens, Samuel Pepys and Dr Johnson.
Inside thje pub you will find a traditional pub bursting with character with its flagstone floor & pewter topped bar just some of the highlights. Guests can head out to the terraces to enjoy breathtaking riverside views, and even walk down the Pelican steps to stroll on the pebbled shore of the Thames.
