BLACK SHEEP BREWERY
- Guest Blogger -
Black Sheep was born from the pioneering spirit of Paul Theakston (the ‘Black Sheep’ of the Theakston brewing family) who, in 1992, followed his heart and dared to start a new brewery.

Set in the idyllic market town of Masham, North Yorkshire, the award winning brewery produces an outstanding range of cask, keg and bottled beers and continues to go against the grain with a flow of new and experimental brews. Each beer is the culmination of brewing expertise spanning six family generations.

Our flagship cask ale, Black Sheep Best Bitter, was first brewed in 1992. At 3.8%, it’s an iconic Yorkshire Bitter brewed with whole-flower English hops including Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles. This, blended with the best Marris Otter malt, Yorkshire Dales water and our own in-house yeast strain results in a tasty, bold and flavoursome pint. On the nose, the vibrant hops rise about a delicate touch of caramel whilst on the palate, the Fuggles provide a delicious peppery charm and a spiky bitterness. As with all our beers, Best Bitter is fermented in our special Yorkshire Square fermenting vessels which add a wonderful crisp finish.
Cask drinkers simply love Black Sheep Best Bitter and it flies out wherever it is stocked. Known for its quality and consistency, this true champion if its style and region remains the most in-demand pint from Yorkshire!*
